I hate Christmas.
(I hate most holidays, and I think I say this every year, so this should really go without saying.)

I hate everything about it. I hate the gifting. The required and forced socialization. The carols which are drilled into your brain every waking minute, the heavily promoted idea that excess is perfectly acceptable... and on and on. The only thing I think I actually like is the pretty houses. And even that has it's stipulations. The simple pretty, not the excessively "I-have-to-do-better-than-my-neighbors" competition that drains all the city watts, blinds anyone who tries to look at it and creates more light pollution than the entire city of Vegas.

It really all just stresses me the hell out. I don't get to see James at all this week, because they have him scheduled for all day, every day except for Giftmas Eve and Giftmas it's self. I had really wanted to see him Wednesday since I know this week will be so incredibly stressful for me, but when he told me what days he had off I thought I would have to settle for Thursday, which is incidentally going to be the same day my brother and his girlfriend come in.

And well, I have come to find out, I can't even do that. Guess he has to stay home with his dad. Suppose I saw it coming, but that doesn't make me any less miserable.

Anxiety levels are going through the roof. Today I have two appointments, psychiatrist and chiropractor, and shopping for dogs. Tuesday chiropractor again. Wednesday I'll get to myself. Thursday Finley is home. Friday, Giftmas, Saturday, the stupid family Giftmas with all my older siblings and their families. This means I will be spending most of this week holed up in my room, with my mom's portable dvd player, watching all the stuff I have not yet seen (very little), and all the stuff I haven't seen in forever.

Don't know why this has to be such a prevalent detriment anyway... just want to be left out of it for once.

I like Christmas but I can definitely see why you don't. Guess times like these are what massive one-person anime marathons are for. And thank you for mentioning light pollution; as an amateur astronomer, I HATE LIGHT POLLUTION!

I wish I could say I liked it. I really, honestly do. I used to like it. Before I started to feel guilty when people got me things and I was unable to get anything nearly so nice back anyway. Maybe when people start listening to me and leaving me out more, I'll be able to find it a little bit of a happier time.

Who knows.

Yeah, I think people should have the choice to just not participate in these holidays if that's what they'd prefer to do. Unfortunately that seems not to be a feasible decision in our culture :( My mom always used to complain about not liking Christmas as well, until all the little kids in our extended family got old enough that she no longer had to worry about buying 8 million 10-dollar plastic toys for them every Christmas. At least it's over now, for the most part =)
