Ah, it's been a few days. I'm slacking. Again. Evercrack. Mmmm, crack.
I picked up a few books from the library today though and I'm going to sit down and try to read them. Starting with Mindless Eating-Why Eat More Than We Think We Do. I'm doing it in an effort to try and figure out a way to help the people around me lose weight and eat less. It's a really good read and I've learned quite a bit from it. We tend to eat more without realizing just by the subtle cues around us instead of listening to what's going on inside. When you're at the store and it says 2 for $2 you're more likely to buy more than if it just said 1 for $1. We also pre-judge what we think we're eating by the portions and where we think it came from. For example, they did a study where they took cheap $2 wine, removed the labels and placed on what were 'new and fancy' ones and then gave everyone a free glass with their meal. One label was from 'California' and the other was from 'North Dakota'. Depending on what label the consumer got it affected how much they ate. The people who got the 'California wine' ate most, if not all of their food and said that it made their meal taste better and hung around the resturant longer. And on the flip side the people with the 'North Dakota wine' ate less of their meal and said that it affected it badly and made it taste worse and left in under an hour. It's really amazing how the little subliminal things around us affect what we do in every day situations.
Anyway, that's my little update. I'm outie.
