[Origin: bef. 900; ME friend, frend, OE fréond friend, lover, relative (c. OS friund, OHG friunt (G Freund), Goth frijōnds), orig. prp. of fréogan, c. Goth frijōn to love]

What exactly is a friend? According to the dictionary it's essentially anyone that you are on good terms with, but it doesn't seem to me that it should be so simple. And I suppose in the long run it's not. But what exactly is a friend? When does someone stop being one and go back to just being a random stranger on the street or social acquaintance? I guess for me it would be the moment you stop communicating with each other, but I've still had troubles because it's a very hard and confusing thing. Back in school I was never really sure how and who I could call friend. With jovan I'm not sure when the friendship deteriorated. I never wanted it to, I tried to keep it alive, but it still died and I suppose that my trying to keep it alive just made the eventual death that much longer and more painful. I had hoped I would never have to deal with that again, ever, but it seems to have come around again. I have been unsure on how to deal with this problem for what has gone on for a year now. I suppose a confrontation would be best, but I still don't know how to deal with it. I don't want to fuck it up with layton, and I guess that's why I've put it off for so long already.
